My #1 New Year's Resolution

2016 has been a year, y'all.

Personally, this year has been a roller coaster. (Don't even get me started about how crazy of a year it has been for the world in general. *rolls eyes*) However, one thing I know for certain, I have experienced more ups than downs. I am beyond grateful for what this year has brought to my life and everything it has taught me.

As 2016 comes to a close, I have been reflecting on everything that has happened over the last 12 months.

On the door of my closet, I write out prayer requests on post-it notes and hang them up...kind of like a down-sized version of a prayer room. The other day, I decided to check off each answered prayer and I realized that more than half of the post-its were checked off. I always thank God for answered prayers, but physically seeing how much He has blessed me made things a lot clearer for me. To think that He has blessed me far beyond what I could've imagined, even beyond the major requests that I placed on my prayer door, is so incredible to me.

I know this is the time of the year to make New Year's resolutions and figure out what you plan to "leave behind," haha. (I think we are all ready to just throw 2016 away, forget about it and move forward.) However, I think it's also important take time to reflect on how far God has brought you and how much He has blessed you since January 1. The fact that we even made it through this year is HUGE. So, let's not get super caught up into "leaving 2016 behind" because without 2016 and every other horrible year you've had, you would not be where you are today.

I've found that it helps to actually write down your blessings so that you can literally see what He has done. You can make a "blessings list," "blessings jar," "blessings journal," or something of that nature. Starting a prayer closet or wall (or door, haha) is also extremely helpful. It's impossible to keep track of EVERY SINGLE THING He does for us (because the list is infinite), but He appreciates when we make an effort to reflect on His goodness.

So once again... 2016 has been a year.

But He brought us through it, so we're blessed and should acknowledge Him everyday for that. By simply making it a New Year's resolution to focus more on your blessings, you are already preparing to have the best new year of your life!
