My Go-To Self Care Activities

Self care is the best care. (Let me say it louder.) SELF CARE IS THE BEST CARE!

Taking care of yourself mentally and physically is super important for your well-being.

If we forget about ourselves, then we will begin to breakdown...like literally our bodies will begin to be overwhelmed which can lead to mental and physical health issues. I do not practice self care as often as I should (which I promise myself, I will work on), but when I do, here are a few things that usually calm me down after a stressful day/week.

Coloring.

YOU. ARE. NEVER. TOO. OLD. TO. COLOR. Coloring, painting or doing any form of arts and crafts is so therapeutic! I haven't colored in awhile, but when I do anything artsy, I feel 100% relaxed. Even crossword puzzles and other thinking games give my mind a break from the real world by challenging it to think about something else.

Listening to music, while doing...nothing.

Listening to music is great, but it's even better when you're doing absolutely nothing. I really enjoy laying flat on my back with my eyes closed and my music playing at a soothing level. Some great artists to listen to while relaxing are Alina Baraz, Allen Stone, ABRA, Chloe x Halle and my fav, NAO

Watching YT tutorials.

You're probably wondering how can YouTube declutter my mind; I honestly do not know. However, it's something about watching people put on makeup and do different things to their hair that makes me calm. I enjoy learning new makeup and hair techniques, so this is a fun way for me to relax.

Dates with myself.

Dating yourself is so fun because you know what you like better than anyone else. I enjoy taking myself to the mall, out to eat, etc. Myself enjoys it too; we have lots of fun together (haha)! Spending time with yourself is super healthy and needed because you need attention from YOU.

Journaling.

They say one of the best ways to release is to write out your feelings. Maintaining a journal is so helpful when it comes to expressing yourself. Writing, in general, is a passion of mine, so I feel more relaxed when I am journaling, blogging, etc.

Spa days.

Spa days are A-MAZ-ING. I don't mean you have to pay a lot of money to go to a real spa (even though I recently had a professional massage that was BOMB), but you can create your own mini spa at home. First, I take a nice, hot shower to relax my muscles. Then, I give myself a mani and pedi. Some days, I make a full day out of it by also doing my hair. It's fun getting pampered after a full week of being on the go nonstop, even if you have to do it yourself!

Taking a walk.

I don't walk like I should, but when I do, I feel great. Not only is it a good form of exercise, but it is also a way to get some alone time while enjoying nature. I put on some gospel music and walk until I'm tired. I've noticed that I even sleep better when I do.

Splurging a bit.

Splurge, because...who doesn't love to spoil themselves? Saving money is important, but it is okay to have a little fun every now and then (maybe once a month). Take yourself on a shopping date and get yourself something nice. It's kind of like a reward for conquering the week!

Finding ways to laugh.

I've recently starting following some comedians on social media, like Joanne the Scammer (LOL), and they all keep me laughing throughout the day. Whenever I am swamped at work, I take a break and watch some funny videos to give myself a laugh which clears my mind for a bit. Laughing is essential, so don't forget to do so every day!

Unplugging.

Lastly, I unplug from the world sometimes. I need to work on this also, but I do enjoy putting away my phone, turning the TV off and just enjoying some quiet time. Quiet time can be used for meditation, reading or even taking a quick nap. However, you chose to spend it, just enjoy it. Our lives can be so loud sometimes, so it is good to unplug a few times a week.
