It's My Winning Season

One of my favorite gospel songs currently is "You Will Win" by Jekalyn Carr, and the one line that sticks out to me the most is "It's my winning season." Recently, I've been down and unmotivated to do the things I love (reasons why I haven't blogged much lately), but this song really lifts my spirits. It reminds me that I can matter what comes up against me.

So, for weeks I've been praying that God would allow me to hang on until I entered my winning season. I kept telling myself, "your season of wins is on the way, sis!" Then today after Easter service, something dawned on me. I am ALREADY in my winning season. Yes, I've been feeling low and yes, I haven't felt well for a few months now...mentally, emotionally and even physically. BUT (don't you just love when God sends you a "but") I am still moving forward and that is a win within itself.

I think a lot of times we look at our tough situations and only count the losses.

There was a time when I didn't know what was next for me beyond college. I felt disappointed in myself because I had no solid plans and I was scared of the unknown. Nevertheless, I kept going. I didn't know where I was going, but I was just...going. I got a part time job while I figured it out and I kept doing things that fulfilled me until God showed me my next move. Back then, I didn't see that period as a winning season, but now as I reflect on it, I was definitely winning. I was winning because I didn't give up on myself and God kept me going through that obstacle. Even now as I go through another storm, I am still winning because I am making strides towards even bigger wins.

We often don't take the time to recognize and appreciate the fact that by the grace of God we're still in the race.

There are some people in this world that are just stuck. They are not moving forward whatsoever. They can't even get up and keep moving throughout the day. If you're uncertain about whether this describes you or not, then take some time right now to assess your situation. Ask yourself these questions:

  1. Am I alive and well? Even if I don't feel 100% good, am I well enough to read this post?
  2. Am I still managing to get through the day by going to work, school, etc., no matter how difficult it is for me to do so?
  3. Have I given up despite the fact that I WANT to give up?
  4. Do I still have goals and dreams that I would like to see come to fruition?
  5. Do I want to make it through this storm in one piece?

If you answered "yes" to those questions, I have good news for you...YOU'RE WINNING! You're winning because you still have hope, even if it's just a little. You're winning because you're still holding on when so many other people have chosen to let go. Your faith may be weak, your level of optimism may be low and your resources may be few, but you're not completely empty. That's something to celebrate!

I encourage all of you to acknowledge your small wins this week. Tomorrow, congratulate yourself for getting out of the bed and starting your day when you really just feel like crawling back in the bed and sleeping the pain away. Congratulate yourself on pushing through the day even though your emotions may be running wild. Congratulate yourself on being YOU because you're amazing and resilient enough to make it though anything that life throws at you. Don't forget this: through it all...THANK GOD!

He's supplying your energy and your motivation to push forward - He's helping you WIN.

Declare this with me:

"By God's power, I am ALREADY healed. I am ALREADY blessed. I am ALREADY headed toward victory. I may have taken a few L's, BUT I am ALREADY in my winning season and EVERYTHING attached to me wins."

Now, go be great because you're a winner! How do I know that? Because God said so!
